Black Dating - Essence
What exactly is Black dating?
When one talks about dates and the dating scene, people come to a common ground talking about the rituals and other details. However, not everybody is open to inter-racial dating and relationships. Despite the already liberated world we live in, the fundamentals of finding a mate or partner within the same race is always present. Asians tend to find partners who are also Asians, blacks still prefer black, and white almost always end up with white. It is not racism, but rather preference. And this is what the core of Black dating is.
Black women, in fact, do not start out favoring all men as equal choices as possible partners. The average black woman sees the black man as the main relationship option for black women. She does not automatically consider that any man will do, whether they are black, white, or other. Black women also have a tendency to feel as though they are inappropriate or unfit to be a white man’s partner. She often feels scared to indulge in interracial relationships for fear of inadequacy of being the other person’s partner. Black men, in general, have the same inclination as well.

Perhaps the deepest core of Black dating lies with "normalcy." The normalcy of black women dating black men is seen as standard and logical. Therefore, looking into other options is a step outside the standard - who does not want to be "normal"? Whether they like it or not, the power of the community over an individual often comes to play. Even a look into history proves that interracial relationships between white and black people result in certain conflicts and unease as both partners try to help each partner adapt to changes in culture, beliefs, and practices.
-
Another factor in Black dating is the factor of common culture and upbringing. People relate more to others who have seen the sights they have seen, or those who have lived the same way they have lived. Common beliefs, common practices, and common tastes are often found in people who share the same race. Thus, being in a relationship with someone who shares all these with gives a sense of home and comfort for the person. This in turn makes the person with all those aspects ideal (although this might not always be the case, as there are others who prefer changes).
All in all, it is the fact that black women and black men share a lot in common that forms the essence of Black dating. The natural preference of black women for black men, and vice versa, as their ideal partners stems from a long line of tradition where black women and black men ought to be partners. This traditional pairing plus the sense of familiarity when it comes to practices, culture, tastes, and historical experiences make the partnership work to both of the partners.
To top it off, the idea that black women dating black men is normal while interracial relationships are thought of otherwise is one of the main essence of black dating. Normalcy dictates that black men and black women start relationships - and they do!
