What exactly is Gay dating?
A lot of misconceptions revolve around the reasons why gays date other men. The most popular misconception is that gays date men just for the sex. This is definitely not true and not applicable to most situations. It might not have occurred to a lot of people yet but gays are people too. This means that they are subject to the needs and wants heterosexuals experience too. Everybody has that human need for relationships. Majority of the people who exist in this world exist for one reason alone, so that they can live their lives in the arms of the people or person they love. The only difference that exists for gay men is that they prefer to spend their lives with individuals of the same gender. However, gay or not, these people still date for the same reasons.
Companionship is the first reason why gays seek men to date. Gay men are especially subjected to social stigma and therefore some of them might feel that they are alone in the very society they grew up in. Finding another man they can share their lives helps gay men immensely. With someone beside them, they feel that companionship they never thought could possibly happen and they never have to be alone again.
Gay men date other men because they want to feel accepted. If gay men cannot be accepted by their own family or their own society, then the only way they can feel accepted is to date men who have the same gender orientation as they do.
Gay men, like other men and women, have a lot of love to give. The essence of gay dating is that it allows them to show affection to someone like them. It also lets them experience physical and emotional intimacy they could never dream possible. Just because they are homosexuals does not mean that they should be deprived of affection. Gays are humans too and so would need to touched, to be cared for, to be of concern to someone else and they experience that with other men.
Like heterosexuals, gay men also need attention. They need to be looked at as special to someone else’s eyes. Gay men date other men because these men give them the attention that has been deprived of them in their own society. Too often gay men are overlooked too many times and underestimated too many times because of their sexual orientation. Like other men or women, they have the need to be respected too and the only way they can get close to getting that is by dating men who find them attractive.
Lastly, the essence of gay dating is for love. Gay men need to feel love and be loved. Just because they only feel this through other men should not be reason to look down on them or to ridicule them. People, men or women, need to be loved. Since gays are people too they have every reason to be loved. Though they are set apart in society because they feel love from other men, they are still people and deserve to be loved still.
